Student Discipline
Students enrolled at Sai Institute of Technological Science must recognize their responsibilities towards the faculty, office staff and fellow students. Failure to maintain appropriate standards of conduct will attract disciplinary action.
The College believes that duty, decorum and discipline are the hallmarks of a good student. Students with such qualities alone can prove to be productive manpower with an appreciable value system. Therefore erring students would be subjected to certain disciplinary code.  The following acts, would  be  deemed  to  be  acts of indiscipline - any overt or covert act leading to ragging and eve teasing, disruption of class room activities or disturbing the studies of other students or marring the operations of the college or its educational activities or harming the health or safety of staff or students or damaging the college property or possession of any intoxicants or illicit drugs or weapons in the college campus, misconduct during examination, production of false information or documents for admission purpose and the failure to return loaned materials or settle debts with the college.
 
 

Rules for Student Discipline
  1. Students are expected to use only courteous and polite language and behave with decorum with the faculty members and the staff of the College.
  2. Students shall avoid using any insulting, inciting, threatening language when talking with fellow students and should abstain themselves from violence.
  3. Students shall not talk or act in any manner outside the institution in a way that would bring disrepute to the College.
  4. The students shall be regular and punctual in attending classes and all activities connected with the College.
  5. Gathering in groups at roads, entrance, exit and pathways is strictly prohibited.
  6. The students shall observe strict silence in the class irrespective of the presence or absence of the faculty member.
  7. No student is permitted to leave the classroom during class hours.
  8. Students should not leave the class or attend it late under the pretext of paying fees and/or visiting the library and/or visiting the laboratory and/or visiting the hostel room for bad headache and fever (doctor's certificate required), etc.
  9. Students are expected to read notices/circulars displayed on the College Notice Board.  Ignorance of not reading any notice/circular thus displayed shall not be accepted as an excuse failing to comply with the directions contained in it.
  10. All vehicles should be parked in the allotted place.  Vehicles found parked in unauthorized places shall be impounded.
  11. While attending College functions, the students will conduct themselves in such a way as to bring credit to themselves and to the institution.
  12. Spitting, smoking and throwing bits of paper inside the college campus is prohibited.
  13. Students are forbidden from entering the college office and the staff rooms during unspecified hours.
  14. Students are prohibited from damaging the building and/or electrical equipment and/or sanitary fittings of toilet and birth places and/or any other property of the College in any way.  The cost of any damage so caused will be recovered from the students collectively if the responsibility for it cannot be fixed on any individual or group of individuals.
  15. Representation of complaints and grievances may be made individually by online or manually to the Principal or Discipline-cum-Grievance Committee.
  16. No meeting/function of any kind shall be held in the College premises without the written permission of the Principal.
  17. No notice of any kind shall be circulated among students or displayed on black boards or on notice board without the written permission of the Principal.
  18. The Principal will deal strictly with students who play a leading part, by organizing or assisting, in strikes.
  19. The students are expected to take up all assignments, tests and examinations of this College/ Council seriously and would try to perform the best.
  20. Misconduct during examination, production of false information or documents for admission purpose and the failure to return loaned materials or settling debts with the College would be seriously dealt with.
  21. In this campus various classes are conducted simultaneously and hence, students should observe SILENCE within the campus.
  22. Ragging and Eve Teasing are considered as crime and strictly prohibited by an act promulgated by the Government of India with the penalty of Rs.10,000/- and two years’ imprisonment.  If any student indulges in any form of ragging or Eve-Teasing inside the College premises or outside, he/she will be summarily expelled from the College.
  23. Each student of this College must possess Student Identity Card with his/her photograph affixed on it, duly attested by the Principal.  The students must compulsorily have the Student Identity Card inside the College Campus.
  24. Students shall come clean, tidy and modestly dressed in College Uniform.  Students not in College Uniform would be marked as absent for that particular day.  If non-adherence to this rule is reported against a student often, severe action may be initiated against him/her and/or penalised of Rs.30 to Rs.100 per day.  
  25. Use of mobile phones within the College campus is strictly banned.  Violation of this rule by any student would result in impounding of the Cell phone and/or penalised of Rs.500 to Rs.1000 and/or strict disciplinary action against the student.
  26. Students should not involve themselves either directly or indirectly in any form of politics either inside or outside the College during their period of study.   If a student fails to comply with this regulation, strict disciplinary action will be initiated against the student which may even result in the rustication of the student from the College.
 
Prohibition of Ragging
Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited.  If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would expel him from the institution.
The College will not show any mercy to a misbehaving student and would initiate disciplinary action whenever occasion demands.   At the time of admission, every student and his/her parent/guardian shall be required to sign a declaration to the effect that he/she submits himself/herself to the disciplinary jurisdiction of the Principal and the other authorities of the College. 
All powers relating to discipline among the students are vested in the Principal. The Principal may delegate all or any of his/her powers as he/she deems proper to any of the Officers of the College specified by him/her. The Principal's decision shall be the final in all matters of punishment of the students for violation of any of the rules and regulations of the College.
 
Attendance Rules
  1. Students should attend all classes regularly and punctually.
  2. Students must be punctual to each lecture hour.  Students coming late to the class by more than five minutes will not be given attendance for that period.
  3. Although the SCTE & VT, Bhubaneswar prescribes a minimum of 75% of attendance, the College insists on regular attendance in all classes.
  4. A student with less than 75% of attendance will not be eligible to write the Semester Examinations of the SCTE & VT, Bhubaneswar.
  5. Students are not permitted to absent themselves without prior permission.
  6. An application for leave must be submitted in the prescribed form well in advance or at least a day before the leave is required. 
  7. When absence without prior permission is unavoidable the leave application must be submitted on the day of return to the College after the leave period.
  8. Even with prior permission, if a student absents oneself, even for a single hour, he/she would be considered as absent for the whole session.
  9. Absence without leave for even a part of the day will be counted as absence for one day.
  10. In case of any violation of rules and regulations by the student, action initiated against the student may include a warning and/or a reprimand and/or awarding a fail mark for an assignment or course, suspension or expulsion from a particular class or from the College, withdrawal of campus privileges and/or the penalty of Rs.1,500/  to Rs. 3,500 and/or any other action which the College authorities deem appropriate at that time.
 
Library Rules
  1. Every student entering the Library / Reading room should have a valid College I-Card.
  2. Student must carry I-card while visiting to library. He/She shall not be allowed to access library if he/she fails to do so.
  3. Every student or any user who wishes to enter in library should sign the users Register maintained by library.
  4. Student is prohibited from engaging in any activity which may disturb or distract the attention of other readers and will result in severe disciplinary action.
  5. Date label and book pockets shall not be tampered with. Serious notice will be taken on any violation of this rule.
  6. Library tickets are not transferable. A reader who misses a ticket shall follow the stipulated process including remittance of Rs.50 as a fine to get another Ticket. In case he/she happens to get the ticket at a later date, the reader should return the same immediately.
  7. Text books are issued to student to take home against library I-card for 10 days. In case of late return of books, student will have to pay a fine of delay Rs.2/- per day per book.
  8. A book may be renewed for a further period of a fortnight provided: (a) No other reader has applied for the book in the meantime and (b) not more than two consecutive renewals may be made for the same book.
  9. The Librarian in exigencies may recall any book at any time even if the normal period of loan has not expired and readers are not allowed to sub-lend the books of the Library.
  10. At the end of each semester before receiving the hall ticket, the student should return all the books to the library. Without a clearance certificate (NO DUE) to this effect from the Librarian, the college will not permit a student to write the End Semester Examination.
  11. The Provisional / Diploma and Certificate shall be issued to the students only after they return all the books and remit dues outstanding against them.
  12. A person found mutilating the pages of the book or damaging it shall be debarred from using the library.
  13. Reference books like year book, encyclopedia, project report, magazines and journals will not be issued. These can be referred to in the library reading room only.
  14. In case of damage or loss of book, it will have to be replaced with same or new edition.
  15. Writing on books or pages by Ink or Pencil is strictly prohibited. If it is found, it shall be considered as damaging the book and appropriate action shall be taken.
  16. A Complete silence and strict discipline shall be maintained in the library / Reading room.
  17. In case of loss of I-Card, the new I-Card will be issued on payment of Rs. 100/-
  18. Dictionaries and books which might be difficult to replace and such other books declared as Reference Books shall not be loaned.
  19. On Sunday / holiday library will remain closed.
Library Discipline
  1. Talking, spitting, eating, smoking, sleeping, putting legs on the table or any other misbehavior shall be strictly prohibited.
  2. All personal belongings like bags, apron, folders, drafter, drawing book etc. should be deposited on the property counter before entry in the library.
  3. Disciplinary action will be taken against students talking on mobile phones in the library.
  4. Strict action shall be taken against the person, violating the above library & disciplinary rules.
  5. Readers shall be responsible for any damage done to the books or other property belonging to the Library of the College. If the replacement of the books or other properties is not possible, four times the value of the book/property may be collected from the student concerned.
Instructions to Users for Multimedia Section
  1. Members/ users have to produce their identity cards at the entrance and sign the register at the entrance before entering the library.
  2. Members/ users have to keep their personal belongings at the property counter, at the entrance compulsorily.
  3. Users of library are not permitted to take personal copies of books or other printed materials inside the section.
  4. This facility is meant for Educational purpose only.
  5. Users are allowed to search only educational websites. Those found violating the instruction shall be stop from using this facility.
  6. Orkut, facebook, Web WhatsApp, twitter, linkedin etc is strictly prohibited.
  7. DTP works are strictly prohibited.
  8. Online e-books, e-journals, syllabus and university question papers searching facility are available in multimedia section.
  9. Each user shall be allowed to sit for one hour only in multimedia section.
  10. Users should reserve their slot one hour before their use.
  11. Silence shall be strictly observed inside the library.
  12. Users have to leave fifteen minutes before the closing hour of library.
  13. Users must properly shutdown computer and leave your seat by arranging chair.
Warning
  1. All those users who are found violating the library rule, their library membership shall be cancelled with immediate effect.
  2. Personal pen drives/ USBs/ CDs/DVDs are not allowed. If you need any data for educational purpose then users needs to seek prior permission from the concerned staff.
 
1. Rules for Visiting Parents/ Guardians
The College takes seriously its task to ensure the safety and security of its students. There is a 24 hour vigil around the campus. The hostel doors are kept shut between 09:30 p.m. and 06:00 a.m. Only parents and authorized guardians may meet their children during visiting hours. Regular visits, excursions, outings and shopping tours are organised for boarders on weekends.
  1. Parents and Guardians may visit their children at the following times: Saturdays:  From 1600 hours to 1900 hrs and Sundays: From 1030 hours to 1900 hrs
  2. On second weekends they may also visit and take their children out on long weekend from Friday 1600 hours to Sunday 1900 hours, after obtaining a Boarding Out Pass from the House Parent.
  3. It is advisable to inform the college a day in advance regarding the visit so that the student may be left excused from any activity or visit planned by the college.
  4. Due to security reasons, only parents/ guardians whose photographs are kept in an authorized register at the hostel are permitted to visit the students and take them on long weekends. Therefore parents are requested to hand over their photographs and that of their authorised guardians to the College office, if they haven't done so.
  5. No visitors are permitted to enter or stay inside the campus beyond 1900 hours on any day.
2. Food Articles
  1. Parents may provide small quantities of biscuits, chocolates and fruits to their children.
  2. No soft drinks, fast foods, spicy chips and snacks are permitted.
  3. Care should be taken not to provide excess quantity of food stuff as this encourages the children to avoid their regular meals.
3. Parking of Vehicles
  1. Parents and guardians are requested to park their vehicles inside the campus, the spaces available along the college parking.
  2. Whenever they are carrying luggage for their children, they may contact the A.O to take their vehicles to drop the luggage only.
4. Telephone Calls
Parents/ guardians may call their children on phone between as per schedule below:

SATURDAY 2ND YEAR STUDENTS 5:00PM to 6:30PM
SUNDAY ALL YEAR STUDENTS 3:00PM to 6:30PM
 
Duration of call is to be limited to five minutes only, to allow other students to receive calls.
5. Other Rules
  1. Students are permitted to go out with their parents/ guardians on long weekend on the second weekend of each month, after they obtain Boarding Out Pass from the House Parent/A.O. The timings for long weekends are from Friday evening 4:00 p.m and return by 7:00 p.m on Sunday.
  2. Parents/ guardians may visit their wards on weekends (Saturday & Sunday) and college holidays. They may take their children out only on second weekends as mentioned above.
  3. Students will be called to the reception area to meet their parents. Parents may not enter the students' rooms except when leaving their children first time during admissions and after college vacations.
  4. Parents/ guardians may not stay longer than 7:00 pm in the boarding/ College premises. In case they are likely to be delayed in dropping their children, they must take prior permission of house parents. In all cases, hostel gates will close at 9.30 pm and no entry or exit is permitted after that.
  5. Students must NOT bring to the Boarding drugs of any type, tobacco in any form or alcohol.
  6. Students must NOT keep with them a laptop, a mobile, an Ipod, expensive jewellery, other expensive items, cloth pressing iron, a motorized vehicle or firearms and explosives.
  7. Dress Code Students must wear their Uniforms during college hours, college trips and official gatherings and whenever they are told to do so. After college hours and on weekends they may change into either sports dress or casual dress. Spaghetti straps and short skirts are not permitted. Students are expected to be modest and presentable when they wear casual clothes. Long hair is not permitted for boys; hair must not touch the collar. Girls with long hair must have it neatly tied back during college hours. Hair styles should not be bizarre, nor coloured (blue, green, yellow, pink). Girls may wear small neat earrings. Bangles and rings should not be worn during college hours. No body piercing is allowed. No makeup of any sort is allowed - mascara, foundation, ruse, lipstick, lip-gloss, nail polish, perfumes (except body deodorant) are strictly prohibited.
  8. Cleanliness and Hygiene All students are expected to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene. Daily bath and personal cleanliness is essential. Students of 1st year, 2nd year and 3nd year are to tidy up their own rooms, beds and cupboards.

           (Coloured dress or salwar kameez for girls,Formal pants & full sleeve collared shirts for boys)
        6. Undergarments - Six sets
        7. Swimming costume - One (Full length single piece suit and cap for girls)

        9. Miscellaneous Items
            Tumbler/ Mug – One
            Sandals - One pair
            Bathroom Slippers - One pair
            Shoe polish and shoe brush - One Black plus as needed
            Hangers - Twelve
            Detergent/ Washing Soap - One packet/ one
7. Following items are not permitted to be brought into the campus:
  1. Mobile phone
  2. Makeup materials except Face powder/ talcum powder and body deodorant
  3. Flashy, and indecent clothes
8. Penalty:
Those who are violating the hostel rules they will be penalised ₹500/- for respective cases, ₹1000 will penalised if any one have mobile phone (effective from 16/08/2017).
